Windows 7, Build 7600

by crazyskills on Jul.12, 2009, under event, question, tech

This may very well be the final RC for Windows 7. People are speculating that this may be the final RC as well as the RTM for 7, as the build number has jumped so far. “The RTM is expected to be given out to Microsoft partners sometime later this month and launched on October 22, 2009, the day General Availability (GA).”

Note: at the time of this writing, build 7600 is not available from the Windows 7 Beta download page [microsoft.com] (requires MSDN login)

More on Win 7

by crazyskills on May.11, 2009, under announcement, tech

A few days ago, I posted [donetblog.com] that you could use Windows 7 for free for a year.  It seems now that wasn’t entirely accurate:

“The release candidate for Microsoft Windows 7 will expire June 2010, and the software giant will let users know they need to pay to upgrade by shutting down the system every two hours [itpro.co.uk] for three months. According to Microsoft: “The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You’ll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use.”"
