So I had this experience today… I didn’t mean to be rude or certainly not cruel or anything, but I went back into the cage to retrieve a copy of office or something for a client and the nice young lady back there was going on about something.. a young girl in some other country whose father was paying for her to have the rights to perform Brittney Spears songs or something… anyway, the point is this: I thought she was on the telephone or something, but thinking back, I believe she was speaking to me.. and I was just in my own little world hoping I could locate the software for my client. So what do I do? I don’t want her to think I was being intentionally rude. But how do I approach this now? Do I say anything? Wait for it to be brought up (which it likely won’t?) Oh well.. I can think of positive and negative consequences for my inadvertent actions this afternoon. I just don’t want to come across as rude or thoughtless. What do you think? What should I do? Do I say anything? Do I just let it go? I don’t want to start any relationships on a bad note. I am still the new guy.

Thank You!

for my new iPhone! I have spent the last few hours (!) unlocking and jailbreaking it. It took some doing and some learning about what makes this device tick. It should prove to be a very valuable resource. Thank you so much! You know who you are!
I Need to Learn to Keep My Big Mouth Shut

Well, today a customer asked me about “a free alternative to Microsoft Office.” I of course responded with praise of OOo (openoffice.org) and went even further to write down Thunderbird and gIMP for them to recommend downloading.. But part of my job is selling software. So I should have said that MS Office was what they needed.. or should I have? I may have earned a customer for life. Always a possibility. What do you think? I am being paid to provide solutions to customers BY SELLING OUR PRODUCTS.
Is it more important to gain a few hundred bucks’ sale or a customer’s trust? What is worth more?
Phones, Driod
by crazyskills on Nov.10, 2009, under announcement, question, tech
Alright - I am locked in for at least another year with Verizon. What is the best phone that I can get at a reasonable cost (I am not going to qualify for welcome-to-verizon sales) that has at least 40G of mp3 storage on it, is extensible, and just generally kicks ass.
The Droid seems like an option, but they’re going for $500 on eBay unlocked (or $199 through a welcome-to-verizon sale)
But you know what? … I already have a phone. And it works fine. I just have to carry it and my iPod anywhere I’d like to be able to talk on the phone or listen to music. If I wanted to access the net, I’d need my tablet or notebook too. I want all of these things - in one neat little package. And I am hearing I can get it through Droid. But if people are bidding upwards of $500 for these on eBay, what is the true cost of the Driod to an existing Verizon customer? And how do I go about making this thing happen?
My wife got a kickass new phone, can you tell?
Comic Books Good For Kids
by crazyskills on Nov.08, 2009, under announcement, news
The Telegraph reports [telegraph.co.uk] that comic books are “just as sophisticated as other forms of reading, children benefit from reading them at least as much as they do from reading other kinds of books, and that there is evidence that comics increase children’s vocabulary and instill a love of reading.”

Day 1
by crazyskills on Nov.05, 2009, under event, news
Haha. No I didn’t smoke - that’s been 193 days. Nope. I’m talking about my new job! Yup. I am now in the business of selling all things computers. Today went well. It is a cool environment - I think I ought to do fine there. They’re giving me plenty of hours and a couple of weeks to train. Yes I’m back in the retail sector. But you know, I really do like it. I really like my customers.
I Stand Corrected

Well, here I was thinking I was all that, calling Peter Tosh a “One Hit Wonder” for his tune, Legalize It. Ok, so I never really posted that he was a one-hit-wonder, but I was thinking it. All I really posted were the lyrics to “Legalize It,” but it has been brought to my attention that he was a founding member of Bob Marley and the Wailers, and actually helped write such classics as “One Love.” Wow. Perhaps I should learn to get my facts straight before I form opinions - at least before I express them in a public place.
Thanks for setting me straight on this.
Dreams
by crazyskills on Nov.01, 2009, under event, stream of consciousness
So, last night I had a dream. It was the strangest of dreams, not because of being all psychedelic or anything, but because everyone I have ever known was in it. People I haven’t seen for years, my whole family, friends past and present. Events too; things I’ve done, places I’ve been. I didn’t realize I held on to all of this detail, but I guess it’s in there somewhere. And they say that dreams happen in an instant, that only afterward, you’re able to remember all of the details from it and that they can appear to have elapsed some time.
But yeah. It was nice to see you again.
