Every Once In A While
by crazyskills on Jun.12, 2009, under question
…you come across something, you read something and think - unbelievable - that is so right on. Well wouldn’t you know, I was doing some reading on Slashdot a moment ago (yes Friday night and I’m reading Slashdot like the geek I am) ..Anyway, the article is titled “World Copyright Summit and the Lies of the Copyright Industry.” Catchy, huh? So anyway, there’s plenty I could talk about from this article, but what I really want to point out is one particular user’s comments.
Chyeld writes:
These “Artists” you speak of are the only people in the world that I’ve ever met who have honestly believed that they deserve to be paid by us in perpetutuality for ‘an hours’ worth of work using material they’ve borrows from us.
Engineers don’t expect a monthly check from the people who drive over the bridges built to their design.
Architects aren’t getting rich off the residuals on their building designs.
Your average office worker doesn’t even get paid for all the reports and charts they create.
Why is it that being an “Artist” should equate to “being paid forever (emphasis mine)”.
Just makes you wonder. I mean don’t get me wrong; I’d like to be paid forever, say, every time someone visits crazyskills, but I understand that isn’t going to happen. How did this come to be? Great point, Chyeld. I’ll let you know if I come up with anything.
Letterman v. Palin
by crazyskills on Jun.12, 2009, under ventilation
Yeah, so if you live this side of Alpha Centauri you have heard about this nonsense being offered by New York State Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb, questioning the judgment of Dave over a remark he made about the adult daughter of former veep-hopeful Sarah Palin.
Get over it already. There is nothing wrong with Letterman making jokes about society and its members. Even if you don’t personally don’t think his comments were funny, so be it. He has the right to say what he said (and many of us found it very funny as well.) He isn’t saying anything about females in general, not even the broad spectrum of young adulthood. He isn’t being sexist or racist or discriminating due to age or skin / hair / eyecolor. Just making a joke. Those of you who can’t take it or don’t think it’s funny, stop watching. Calling for Dave to be fired [foxnews.com] (Yeah I’m looking at you, Kolb) is just ridiculous. When you are in a position of public view, you have to be able to take some element of this. It was a joke, by a very funny man, which some happen to find offensive. Too damn bad. Should everyone who offends someone be fired now? (Would the late, great George Carlin have gotten anywhere at all if you got fired every time someone happened to find something offensive?) Hell, I’m sure I’ve offended someone over the course of this particular rant here on crazyskills. But we all know I’m not going anywhere. And neither is Dave. More power to ya.
Jeremiah Blues

It was midnight, midnight at noon
Everyone talked in rhyme
Everyone saw the big clock ticking
Nobody knew, nobody knew the time
Elegant debutantes smiled
Everyone fought for dimes
Newspapers screamed for blood
It was the best of times
Every place around the world it seemed the same
Can’t hear the rhythm for the drums
Everybody wants to look the other way
When something wicked this way comes
Sometimes they tie a thief to the tree
Sometimes I stare
Sometimes it’s me
Everyone told the truth
All that we heard were lies
A pope claimed that he’d been wrong in the past
This was a big surprise
Everyone fell in love
A cardinal’s wife was jailed
The government saved a dying planet
When popular icons failed
Every place around the world it seemed the same
Can’t hear the rhythm for the drums
Everybody wants to look the other way
When something wicked this way comes
Sometimes they tie a thief to the tree
Sometimes I stare
Sometimes it’s me
Sometimes I stare
Sometimes it’s me
