blogs / blogging

November 27th, 2007 by crazyskills

I take liberties with my blogging.  I figure you don’t have to read it.  However, while there is a great deal which I can write about, there’s plenty I can’t or won’t.  For instance, some people think their blog is anonymous.  This is certainly not so in most cases.  People think they can blog about anything at all, but a simple search can often lead to your name.  If you look hard enough, the names of the primary contributers are available on crazyskills.com.

Though that’s a tangent.

What I’d like to say is that it is important to not write as though you are anonymous.  Back up what you have to say.  But then I live my life this way too.  Maybe not everyone does.

I like to blog as though I have my own newspaper which discusses the extraordinary in an everyday manner.

That and have a little fun.

Everyone wants to hire me

November 26th, 2007 by crazyskills

Ok, so it’s not quite that, but everyone wants to get me a job where they have gone / are going / will go.  Too bad none of my friends are in my field.  So what exactly is your field, sir, if I may ask?  I think in overseeing projects but definitely still being part of the design team.  Or would I rather just do what other people tell me and collect my paychecks?  I’m looking for the company who wants to be more than a paycheck to me.  I believe there are things I must change about my belief structure in order to be with the company of my dreams, but this desire is not one of them.

Patience, young grasshopper.

Open your mind.

I want someone who will pay me to learn more everyday.  I have actually already found this, but I believe there must be this opportunity within my field.  So what is my field?

Development.  PHP, MySQL, Apache, CSS

More to come.  It’s getting late.

achievements and goals

November 20th, 2007 by crazyskills

Goals:
Fix the MySQL database without losing data.
Revive the text adventure game Stranded! (Find the disks. I already found the floppies for Visual Basic 3. Though I wonder if I could port it to 7.)
Find a company looking for someone with not only scripting capability but also an imagination.
Be an active part of a development team for internet and intranet projects
Learn more about IIS.
Find a company who will pay for certifications and get certified.

etc.:
I am a self-starter with 24 years of experience figuring out how computers work. I have limited understanding of MySQL but have run into a position where I would love to spend time learning more. I have a strong idea of how flash works and created an animation for a client which exceeded the maximum filesize for a flash movie (ended up having 3 movies calling one from another.) Let’s see. More than that… I enjoy gaming almost as much as scripting (and require both.) I work strongly in a team environment and am capable of minding my own time. I know what my potentials are and I intend to achieve them, understanding few make what they’re worth. I am capable of long term commitment. I am just looking to do what I love. That and not talk about myself. I hate that.

day 1 - let’s see what this does

November 9th, 2007 by crazyskills

you’ve got to enjoy the ride. you’ve got to enjoy the ride now. you’ve got to enjoy the ride.

headed over to foley’s with eddie tonight. should prove to be a good time.
did some more configuring with the wlan to increase security. I now have each wireless connection on its own network. This will prevent outsiders from accessing my shared network directories. Seems like a smart idea. This way I can share folders I want people on the wired network to be able to access and not have them available to all the neighbors. ;) crazyskills. thinking ahead.

ebay again

November 9th, 2007 by crazyskills

Dear crazyskills242,

We wanted to let you know about proposed legislation in Congress that could have a negative impact on you and your eBay sales if it passes.

Because of major theft problems, many large retail stores are lobbying Congress to pass a new “stolen goods” law. The proposed legislation would force you to disclose sensitive personal information on the Internet, including your actual name, your business address and your phone number on every listing. There have also been proposals that would require you to register your product source, with those records made available to any retailer or competitor that claims the goods were stolen.

This legislation would also require operators of Internet marketplaces like eBay to investigate sellers for stolen goods whenever big retailers raise questions about the price of merchandise. Given the millions of items listed on eBay each day, many at highly competitive prices, these investigations–and the new criminal liability being imposed on marketplace operators like eBay–would allow big retailers to bring online marketplaces to a grinding halt.

While retail theft is a serious problem that needs to be addressed, this type of legislation is not the solution. It unfairly–and wrongly–targets online marketplaces like eBay and singles out Internet-enabled sellers like you.

Defend your business and your rights. Contact a Member of Congress today and tell them to reject such retailer-biased, “stolen goods” laws.

Make your voice heard now!

Sincerely,

eBay Government Relations

Leather Goddesses of Phobos

November 3rd, 2007 by crazyskills

I have just begin playing this one again and I am just amazed with it - again. It’s an Infocom game. For those of you who don’t remember Infocom games, they are purely text-adventure games. No graphics, no sound. It’s “Interactive Fiction.” One of the most popular Infocom games is “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” written by Douglas Adams himself.

Leather Goddesses of Phobos is a brilliant and hilarious story. You start off in Joe’s Bar and from there travel the universe including Mars, Venus, Cleveland (to name a few.) This game was created when games had to have content - it’s all they were. No fluff. Just a brilliant storyline and incredible imagination.

I highly recommend the interactive fiction of Infocom to anyone who has a computer and an imagination. A simple google search will turn up information about the games, games you can play online for free, and places where you can buy the ones you can’t.
