php, mysql, phpmyadmin
by crazyskills on Oct.18, 2007, under event
How is it that my OU database has disappeared? I thought MySQL just wasn’t running and therefore, I couldn’t log into the OU database, but I ran PhpMyAdmin and it shows the other databases I have created - just, sadly, not the Open University. The idea was simple. Create a database where you, anyone, and hopefully everyone can post something that they know. The more people that post something, the more the database consists of and the more beneficial it is to the users. Unfortunately, the idea never really took off - I think a good deal of it is that I never really broadcasted it to many people - but just the same, it never really happened. I was one of a handfull of contributors. Not bad I suppose for a first run MySQL project. My apologies to those who contributed and can not now see the results of their work. Perhaps I will try again.

Cough Medicine, part 2
by crazyskills on Oct.16, 2007, under stream of consciousness
We are one living, breathing organism which has survived for about 6000 years now. Our lives are not unline the earth’s skin cells, being born and dying in the normal cycle of things. Or are we a parasite? We are, in fact, killing the planet we live on. Slowly using up its resources. But I’d guess that is all part of life as a planet. Who knows? Maybe this planet has had it easy compared to other planets which have been overtaken by parasites.
Cough Medicine

My cough medicine had me convinced that I could see God. It was in a believable, sensecle way — not an image of a man with a white beard, but that everything I can see is because of God and part of God. Life is our coping with seeing God. I get confused. The world is, after all, finite. I believe in a God that has much more complexity than the world we live in.
Bazamba

Paying money for a cd or mp3 of Bazamba by Sister Soleil. I used to own the CD, but it is not here. Fortunately, we have ebay. I will have the CD again in a few days. And it was only $1.99!
Bazamba is a brilliant little piece of music, unsurpassed except possibly by Hit Me. The music explodes with emotion. It is quite a trip. Good times, Ms. Katsoudas. And thank you. You are truly brilliant. Need proof? Check this out from the Wikipedia:
Deciding to make a name for herself she decided to record a 7 track EP disc and send it out to record labels. Discovering labels wouldn’t take unsolicited demos she got an idea: she would ‘pretened’ to be an A&R rep. She made up the fake name ‘Sarah Kaye’ and made buzz for her fake label “Katharsis Records”.
The fake label and A&R rep soon created so much buzz that her debut performance at the 1100 seat Metro Chicago was sold out; despite her having never performed at all before. She used the funds from the performance to make “Katharsis Records” a real live indie label. “Katharsis Records” proceeded to release her EP to the public with the title “Drown Me In You”.
Vista

taunts me.
Microsoft’s official word is that my mainboard is not supported. Though the technical support genius told me it was not supported because it was manufactured before Vista was released. To go by this man’s logic, there would be no mainboards on the market which were supported by Vista on launch. No computers that could use Vista at release. Oh well.
What I wouldn’t do for an Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev. 2! Someone out there has got to have one for sale. I could deal with my SATA drive not being recognized yet. I got a taste of Vista and I want more. Maybe I could take out a loan and build my next machine. It will last me a good long time. It’s the way we roll. Build machines with the best of what is available, and use them for years. Whenever I am able to build my next machine, I will convert this current one to the server. Imagine what we will be able to host with this one’s processor speed and our current internet connection! Someday. Stay tuned.
Wordpress Again

“Code is poetry”
I am really interested in this. I think I am going to host my own Wordpress server to see the inner workings of it and offer it to a broader audience. I feel good about Wordpress. Like I feel good about creative commons. It’s bringing some of the cool parts of open source to the desktop. If you are not familiar with Creative Commons, check it out. It’s about sharing, like open source is, but about sharing all or just part of the work you do. It’s a brilliant idea.
Back to Wordpress. It’s clever. Even if I type in non-html code in the html tab, it still does it.. It is a little bit of artificial intelligence. I just hit twice, rather than <\br&rt;<\br&rt;. It’s still an editor, but supports html too. It’s that second-guessing the user that is the key to good, practical AI.

The Widget
by crazyskills on Oct.11, 2007, under news
I was going to explain the widget, but found these following 2 sites that really sum it up well. The first is a basic explanation from Tabco’s site at comcast.net, and the second goes into a little more physics; however, both of them fail to mention the ball serving as the spoon for the perfect pour.
